The IFSC and the Fédération Francaise de la Montagne et de l'Escalade (FFME) held a press conference today at the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) headquarters to introduce the signature competition of the 2016 IFSC Calendar. Jean-François Martins, Deputy Mayor of Paris convener of Sports, and Patrick Karam, Vice-President of "Région Île-de-France," shared their enthusiasm for the event and the future of Sport Climbing. Only weeks after the official inclusion of Sport Climbing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, about 20,000 spectators (including 500 school-aged children enrolled in the Paris area) will travel to the AccorHotels Arena to cheer on over 500 Athletes from around the globe.
"It is always daring to embark on organizing an event of this scale, in an arena the size of the AccorHotels Arena," says Pierre You, President of the FFME. "But our experience in organizaing major international events enabled us to meet this challenge with gusto!"
Also in attendance was IFSC President Marco Scolaris, who confirmed You's sentiments. "We are not a large International Federation, and we need to rest on the major national federations that make up our sport. The FFME is undoubtedly one of our partners."
A full report of the press conference can be found on the FFME's website dedicated to the event.

97: Kajsa Rosén SWE - Sergei Bydetev RUS 99: Eva Maria Hammelmüller ITA - Jakub Konecny CZE 01: Laura Rogora ITA - Noe Moutault FRA Overall, Italy and France had the best results, braking the domination Austria has had for several years. Among the big climbing nations that had relatively weak results were as usual Germany and Spain. There were also Speed Championships and interestingly, Sam Avezou from France was fifth at 8.50 seconds, which is around the result of Sean McColl's, who is the only senior who has participated in Combined for several years. Last year, Sam won the Youth Worlds in Lead and this year he has won the three last Euro Cups in Boulder including the last Championship. A bit early said, but this 15-year-old could be a man for Tokyo 2020.

Marcin Dzieński, 166 cm tall and weighing 65 kg, has won the last three Speed World Cups, often sharing the podium with 190 cm guys. Check him running up the 15 meter wall in less than six seconds. Please explain how much and how you have trained to be #1 in the world. Oh, no! You want to know my top secret and make it public ;) It depends on the time of the year. In winter I have training almost every day, then in season “only” four days in week... but as a pro, I am working on my shape 24/7/365 – it means that recovery, diet, mental training are an integral and permanent part of my training regime. Even if I want to socialize with friends – it goes aside from the plan ;) In season, main training sessions take around 3-4 hours per day, then one day rest. My training is mostly running on the wall and some special exercise for strength and power. Almost the same like for other kind of climbing (eg. campus, pull-up bar etc.). Of course I can’t forget about legs, which are trained on the gym or track for plyometric routine. What is your level in Lead and Bouldering now? Do you plan to go all in for the Combined format? Honestly, I don’t have enough time for training lead and bouldering, because am still studying full time physical education at the university. Fortunately, it’s my last year and will have more spare time. I used to start in all kind of climbing comps when I was youth - and even taken silver in junior category on boulder National Champ. Few times in year I go

for fun and able to repead some 7B/C quite quickly... Do you like the Combined Olympic format or could it be improved? They should do 3 disciplines in Tokyo 2020 as in the world championship. Combined will destroy our work so far. But you have to know that we have to be happy that we are in.
Sport Climbing is booming, the Olympics beckon, and more athletes and National Federations are faced with interest from an enquiring media. How do we best explain and present our sport and competitions? What kind of best practices are used within organizations in responding to enquiries? And how do you use social media to become your own news source?
These are some of the topics which will be covered in an interactive workshop aimed at National Federations and Athletes who are just starting to make contacts with the media. The event will be held on September 13th, 2016 from 3.00pm to 5.00 pm at the AccorHotels Arena during the World Championships in Paris. Run in English, the speakers will take into account the differences between different press mediums and provide firsthand experience from both sides of the camera; Sarah Pitkowskiis a former tennis champion and consultant for RMC/BFM TV, and is now in charge of the communications agency 15Love, whileEril Bieldermanis a sport journalist, consultant for l'Equipe 21, W9 and RTL, who specializes in UK football.
These speakers will work with attendees in an interactive workshop, with practice interview scenarios and answering any and all questions. If you are an athlete, team official or representative of a National Federation and are interested in attending, please contact communications assistant Lisa Soennichsen for more information.
