@surf.climb.jess and I have been climbing together for about a year now. On the morning in the photo we were at a local crag in Ouray. I led a stemming route that I found fun, interesting, and slightly challenging, came down and told Jess how awesome it was. She went up and felt exposed, terrified, and questioned what I was thinking in finding pleasure in such a route. I started up the next route which was crimpy, had questionable (at best) holds, and I felt as though you needed perfect body position to complete each movement. I clipped the second bolt and told her to lower me…she was leading this one. She proceeded to breeze up it like every hold was a jug. I was yelling on the route, she didn’t even break a sweat.
My point is we are good at completely different things, we challenge one another and push each other outside of our comfort zone, and then make each other feel terrible about how poorly the other climbed our style route, just as good friends should.
